Material selection and wear mechanism of sealing ring under dynamic sealing conditions

Publish Time: 2025-01-30
In industrial production, dynamic sealing is a key technology to ensure stable operation of equipment and prevent media leakage. As the core component of dynamic sealing, the material selection and wear mechanism of sealing ring are directly related to the reliability and durability of sealing.

Under dynamic sealing conditions, sealing ring needs to withstand constantly changing pressure and friction, so the selection of materials is crucial. Common sealing ring materials include rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), fluororubber, silicone rubber and nitrile rubber. These materials have their own advantages and disadvantages. For example, rubber sealing ring has good elasticity and corrosion resistance, and is suitable for most normal temperature and low pressure occasions; PTFE sealing ring is resistant to high temperature and corrosion, but has poor elasticity and is often used in high temperature and highly corrosive media; fluororubber sealing ring has excellent high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance, but has poor elasticity and is easy to age.

In dynamic sealing, the wear mechanism of sealing ring mainly includes mechanical wear, thermal wear and chemical wear. Mechanical wear is caused by the continuous contact and relative movement between the sealing ring and the friction surface, and this wear will lead to the gradual loss of sealing ring surface material. Thermal wear is caused by the sealing ring working in a high temperature environment, and the material expands and softens due to heat, resulting in decreased sealing performance and increased wear. Chemical wear is caused by the chemical reaction between the sealing ring and the medium, which leads to changes in material properties and accelerated wear.

In order to reduce the wear of the sealing ring under dynamic sealing conditions, a variety of measures can be taken. First, according to the medium properties, temperature, pressure and other conditions, the sealing ring material should be reasonably selected to ensure that it has excellent wear resistance and sealing performance in the working environment. Secondly, optimize the design of the sealing ring, such as increasing the thickness of the sealing ring, improving the shape of the sealing surface, etc., to improve its wear resistance. In addition, strengthening lubrication management to ensure good lubrication between the sealing ring and the friction surface can also effectively reduce wear.

In summary, the material selection and wear mechanism of the sealing ring under dynamic sealing conditions are key factors to ensure stable operation of the equipment and prevent medium leakage. Through reasonable selection of materials, optimized design and strengthened lubrication management and other measures, the wear resistance and sealing performance of the sealing ring can be effectively improved, providing reliable protection for industrial production.
